Please don't send in the clowns
I was reading an interview with the following exchange:
First person “Do you like clowns?”
Second person “Why would you ask me that?”
First “Because I find clowns really divide people.”
Second “I hate them.”
I think people either fall into the I love them or the I hate them category when it comes to clowns. I don’t think that there is any in between. I hate them and have since I was a kid. I don’t think they’re funny and I find them creepy and no thanks to Stephen King (see the book It), I’m pretty sure they’re evil. My nephew Ben feels the same way. When he was about 3, my sister, my niece Anna, Ben and I went into a store that had a clown handing out balloons. Anna went to get a balloon but Ben wouldn’t go near the clown – wouldn’t even look at it. He didn’t say word just sat in the cart looking the other way. Later, when we were in the car my sister made a comment about the clown (he had hit on her in front of my niece and my sister thought it was very inappropriate and it was) and Ben said “ Aunt Kris, I don’t like Clowns.” Turned out that we were lucky that he hadn’t screamed hysterically, which was what he did when a clown approached him at the July 4th parade that year. So, we’re a family of clown haters. What about you?
I too do not like clowns. I think they're sinister. I believe my dislike began when saw my first McDonalds commercial. Or at least the one that stood out most in my mind. Ronald Mcdonald ice skating with children. I don't know why...but I looked at him like a child predator even before I knew what they were. Something about the fact that he was an adult hiding behind makeup and playing with a bunch of kids disturbed me. I just thought it was weird.
I also saw It back in 1990. That clown really scared the crap out of me. Every time I walk by those big drains that look like a small animal can fit in, I picture that clown down there and walk a good distance away.
Clowns are careepy.

Just so you know, I was referring to the movie "It" in my last paragraph above.
