Cat and I are going to NYC in October. Airfare is cheap but what is up with the hotels? I'm talking in the range of $300 plus tax.  Of course, there are cheaper alternatives but I'm not going to New York so that I can stay at a Super 8 in Long Island City and quite frankly, am insulted that Orbitz even gives me that as a choice.  We're not asking for much - clean, relatively inexpensive (by NYC standards) and in a central location, by which I mean Manhattan.  Any suggestions?
