A non-partisan Government Accountability (how ironic) Office report apparently confirms that W and his soon-to-be jailbird cronies stole the 2000 election from Gore and the 2004 election from Kerry.   Well, color me surprised. NOT!

The gas company Exxon has announced that they ended the 3rd quarter with $9.9 billion or 74 percent more than last year.  Ooookkkkk, now I get why gas was $3plus a gallon or 74 percent more than last year.  Um, no I don't. What the hell? 9.9 BILLION? Thank you Exxon - hope you enjoy the money that the rest of us couldn't afford. How do the people at Exxon sleep at night knowing that they've made that knid of money on the backs of people who can't afford it. In all fairness, the article reports that all gas companies will be making similar announcements.  Oh goody. Just for the record - I will be buyiing my gas from the company that makes the least amount of profit and if  we had reliable public transportation in Detroit, I wouldn't be buying gas from any of the greedy bastards.

Happy Halloween! Hope all your treats are good or bad, if you like that kind of thing.

Bye Bye Scooter!  Lewis "Scooter" Libby  was indicted today. Yippee.  Has it been a good week or what. First Harriet and now Scoots. Here's hoping the rest of the weasels get indicted and hey, we haven't had a good old fashioned presidential impeachment in about 30 years - I say it's about time.  Whew - I'm not sure I could handle that much happiness.

Harriet Miers has withdrawn as a Supreme Court nominee. I'm assuming it's because she'll be too busy working as W's pesonal lawyer when it turns out that he knew all about who blew CIA agent Valerie Plame's cover.

Ok, where to start.  How about the 1/2 Marathon? My sister, Kris and I finished the damn thing. The last few miles were excrutiating - in fact, they were so painful that we wondered whether we had actually done any training.  We finished, crawled home and spent the rest of the day on the couch coated in icy hot.  On Monday, Paige and I went to see U2 - Woo Hoo! The show was awesome. We had floor seats - actually we had floor and no seats. The 4 plus hours of standing were pretty tough but it was so worth it.  Part of the stage came out into the crowd and everytime the band came out on that part we were about 30 feet away from them and it was incredible!  The energy of the crowd was great and of course, U2 rocked the house!  Anyway, 2 days later and the soreness is finally subsiding and it was all good.

According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, the shrub has an approval rating of 2% among African-Americans.  You read that right - one digit - 2.  That's what his approval rating should be among everybody. How's he doing with the economy - I give it a 2, how's the war in Iraq going - 2, Hurricane Katrina - 2, handling of anything - 2.  As Moby said on his blog today - "at 2%, with a +/- margin of error of 3%...so theoretically his approval rating among african americans could be at -1%."

This is so funny.

Not to make PovertyBarn all jealous or anything but it's 10 days until the big U2 concert. I can't believe it's almost here - considering that Paige and I bought the tickets 8 months ago, it seems like we should have already been there and done that.  I'm getting a fab (I hope) new 'do at a place called Barberella next week. My friend Melanie, whose hair always looks great, recommended it to me eons ago and I'm finally going to check it out.  I haven't really liked any of the stylists I've tried lately so I'm hoping Sandy at Barberella is going to be the magical one. No pressure for Sandy or anything.  You all have a great weekend!

Awww, poor W.

I need some help here.  Wasn’t the big issue for the right wing in the election last November supposedly morality and how those of us who voted for John Kerry didn’t have morals or faith?  Ok, so I guess I have to look morality up in the dictionary because my definition of it and W’s administration’s definition are diametrically opposed.  Sen. John McCain, according to Molly Ivins' column, “proposed an amendment to the military appropriations bill that would prohibit "cruel, inhuman or degrading" treatment of prisoners in the custody of the U.S. military.”

As Molly says – this should go without saying.  Right? Right.  Here’s the kicker - W, has threatened to veto the bill (and he has not vetoed a bill since he’s been in office) if the part about torture is not removed.  I’m sorry when did morality start to include torture? What is wrong with him and his followers? I do not understand why there is such outrage when Janet Jackson shows a nipple on TV but there is virtually none when we torture people. Sex is bad but torture is ok? What the fuck?  My morals do not allow me to make torture ok, they don’t allow me to approve of sending young men and women to an unjustified war, they do not allow me to lie and kill people, they do not allow me to ignore poverty and think that people living in the Astrodome are better off, and my morals do not allow me to ignore a fucked up presidency.  As Molly says, “This is the United States of America. It is our country, not George W. Bush's personal property.” Damn, right! Let the politicians in Washington know that you do not approve of torture and you do not want Sen. McCain’s amendment taken out of the appropriations bill.  Go here to find out how to contact your Senator.
