January 30, 2005

After the Christmas 4 lb. weight gain debacle, I've been exercising my butt off and I'm pleased to say that it's paying off.  I reached my first goal of 25lbs lost today.  Yippee.  I lost 8lbs this month. The most I've lost in a month since I started in September. Step aerobics and weights seem to really work for me. I was walking previously, which is great but I don't think it burns enough calories for me. I've found a couple of websites that keep me motivated - the Skinny Daily Post, which sends an e-mail several times a week with the posts of different authors talking about their weight-loss efforts and Hungry-Girl, which sends out an e-mail Monday through Friday with each one covering a different topic. You don't have to get an e-mail from them - you can go to the websites and read them there. They both have been very helpful to me - Skinny Daily made the suggestion to focus on what they call Non-scale victories.  Instead of focusing on what the scale is saying or not saying, look for other indications that your diet and exercise plan is working such as how your clothes are fitting.  This has helped me really change my thinking so that I'm not focusing on what I did wrong but on what I've done that was good and to not put so much weight (pardon the pun) on the scale.  All of which I say after I told you I've been on the scale and have lost 25lbs. I am thinking positively but still getting on that scale - I still need to see some weight lose results on occassion!

As you all know, I'm really bad about checking for comments left by visitors but today I did a check and one of the Gangsta Knitters, Doug, left a message. (Check out the December archives and scroll to December 6th.) He says that an MP3 of Gangsta Knitter is available at http://www.tomanddoug.com.  If you haven't  seen it yet, it really is worth checking out - it's so funny.  Thanks Gangsta Doug.

It's 4:00 Tuesday afternoon.  It's 30 degrees in Detroit and 43 degrees in Reykjavik, Iceland.  Something wrong with that picture, if ya ask me.

For those of you in the Midwest and Northeast - hope you have finally made it out of the snow. Wow! We had something like 12 inches here in Detroit on Saturday and you know that when it's still a mess 2 days later, we've been hit pretty hard. So, I think that's all the snow we need for this winter. Time for spring.

They announced the Oscar nominations today - talk about boring. Jeez, did they make any interesting movies last year? You sure wouldn't think so based on the nominations. I'm sorry but why didn't Michael Moore get a nomination for Farenheit 9/11? Is it because the truth hurts? We all know Hollywood isn't really about the truth now is it?

Inaguaral or satanic sacrifice? The Norwegians are wondering. Hey, can you impeach a President for being an embarrassment to the country?

Some people need to get a life and get over their homophobia.  Christian conservatives, it appears, are so afraid of gay people that they see homosexuality in everything including an upcoming video called We Are Family, which features Spongebob Squarepants, Bob the Builder, and *gasp* Winnie-the-Pooh. Christian conservatives are saying that the characters are being exploited to promote a gay agenda.  I say - It's too bad these people don't spend more time worrying about real people who are exploited on a daily basis all over the world.  Just how do you exploit a cartoon character anyhow?

One of the smart people who didn't vote for the shrub? Feel the need to apologize to the rest of the world for those that did? Check out sorry everybody.

Remember, NOT one damn dime.

He Who Must Not Be Named will talk about unity and freedom in his speech today. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Now that's funny.

According to MSNBC the tab for He Who Must Not Be Named's inaguaral will cost us $40 million. And yet, we don't have enough money for healthcare for the uninsured, social security, student loans, and a myriad of other things that would be money better spent.  Hey, shrub, instead of ovehauling social security and doing away with our right to sue a Doctor if they screw up, how about getting rid of the inaugural hoopla? $40 million for any President is disgusting and a complete waste of taxpayer monies.

By now you've either seen the ads or heard that Blockbuster has done away with late fees.  Did you say to yourself: "Hey, what's the catch?"  Well, let me tell you about my visit to Blockbuster yesterday.  I walked in and picked up the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which came highly recommended by Paige and which I loved) and walked to the counter.  The guy scans my card, scans the movie and says to me: "Would you like to pay an additional $11 and keep this for 3 extra days with no late fees?" Not being a moron, I said no. $11??? What the hell? I keep thinking that I had to have heard that wrong. I went home and checked the Blockbuster website and there is nothing about paying a fee to keep it for extra days.  The guy was not standing there by himself - 3 other employees were behind the counter and not one of them batted an eye when he said that. I just don't get it. Is this the Blockbuster policy now, was I hallucinating, was my mind erased and I was having a flashback (see above movie if you don't know what I'm talking about). All I know is this - I won't ever pay an additional $11 for a movie unless I will be owning the movie.
