Madrid

Hello everyone! I've been back from Spain for a week now and think I've finally gotten over the jetlag. I was really, really tired last week but am finally feeling like starting the blog thing again. I'd like to take a moment and send my deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the victims of the Madrid train bombings. Nothing I can say can make this tragedy less painful but my thoughts are with you. We got to Madrid the Tuesday after the bombings and you could tell that the city was subdued. Not that it was quiet – Madrid is very noisy – but you could feel that things were not normal. Which is an understatement, I'm sure. One day we went to the Reina Sofia Museum, which is across the street from the Atocha Train Station and from the museums glass elevators you could see the station and the hundreds of candles out front. The Puerto del Sol had a memorial as well. Very, very sad.

To my family and friends who expressed their concern - thanks for thinking about me and I'm sorry for any worry my being in Spain caused you.

Pictures and more on Spain to come later this week.

Adios, Mi Amigas

I'm off to Spain for the next two weeks so I probably won't be posting until I get back. A couple of things - to my best friend since the 3rd grade, Jane, Happy Birthday, and btw, you're still older than me. Happy Saint Patrick's day to all of you who will be out celebrating. Behave yourself Mary!

Decided on Starsky & Hutch last night - all I can say is ha ha ha ha ha hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! So funny! Especially if you remember the original show. After the movie, Paige said she was a little bugged by Ben Stiller's goofiness. Talking to my brother about the movie - he said the same thing. He feels that Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul were really cool and that Ben ruins that but that Owen Wilson played Hutch the right way. I still thought it was funny.

Una sheep, dos sheep, tres

Is it wrong that I've started considering possible vacation destinations based on their yarn/knitting potential and sheep/bunny/and in some cases, possum populations. I'm thinking Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, and New Zealand would be good - lot's of sheep=lots o' yarn. Yeah! Spain - mmmm, not really known for sheep or yarn. Maybe yarn from bull hair? Do bulls have hair? It's probably a good thing. I really don't want to say to my travel buddy "You go on to the Prado, I'll just pop into this yarn shop."

Decisions, decisions. Both Starsky & Hutch (oooh, Owen) and Hidalgo (oooh, Viggo) open tomorrow. I'm leaning towards S & H cuz I find the previews hysterical. Just have to see what kind of mood I'm in tomorrow.

WWJJD?

What would Joan Jett do? She'd kick ass, that's what she'd do!

I'm asking myself what Joan would do after reading in the Detroit Free Press that the beautiful Viggo Mortensen was at the Borders Bookstore that she visits frequently and had stayed at the hotel next to where she took yoga? Well, if she's me she gets a little depressed and a little irritated that the idiot salesclerk did not fall to their knees in his presence let alone recognize him. Forget Lord of the Rings - if they'd seen Walk on the Moon they would have made a blubbering fool of themself. Which is exactly why it is a good thing I did not see the beautiful one. It would have just been embarrassing for all involved.

Monday Sucks!

It started out with me opening my lunch box to find that the freezer pack that I'd forgotten to take out and put in the freezer last night had exploded all over the inside. What is that stuff inside those things. Gross! Yes, cleaning gross blue goo out of your lunch box is a great way to start Monday especially when all you wanted to do was stay in bed anyway. And doesn't lunch box sound like I'm carrying something with Barbie or Scooby Doo on the front? From there I took the descent into Fed Ex hell in a ultimately successful attempt to retrieve a package from them. They truly couldn't make their phone system or website less user friendly if they tried. Add to that having to drive 20 miles to get the package instead of 2 miles to the Fed Ex down the road. There is some sadist at Fed Ex who is having a good laugh.

Check out this pic of Johnny Depp and his girlfriend at the Oscars. I think Johnny has revived his Edward Scissorhands look and, is it just me or does his girlfriend look like the Golum thing from Lord of the Rings.

Finally, a picture. Please forgive my photo-taking and editing skills. They leave a lot to be desired. This is the swatch for the bucket hat I'm going to start on the plane ride to Spain. It's a little big but I'm going to throw it in the wash and see how much it shrinks. I'm using Sugar n' Cream yarn in Strawberry for my niece. She's a pink kind of girl. At $1.49 a skein, it's a bargin.
